Heritage GB invests in major programme of upgrades at Snowdon Mountain Railway
April 1, 2026
Heritage Great Britain have continued their investment into developing the visitor experience at the historic Snowdon Mountain Railway to celebrate it’s 130th Anniversary.
The start of the 2026 season sees the launch of the new 1900’s style Picture House Cinema with the existing cinema redeveloped to feature wood panelling and restored vintage theatre seats.
The new cinema experience will be screening a brand new bespoke film, telling the story of the history and heritage of the railway. Using the latest technology the film animates archive footage from the 1890’s to bring to life images showing the founding of the Railway.
2026 will also see a outdoor catering outlet, The Rack & Pinion, opening at Llanberis Station serving freshly cooked pizzas, loaded jacket potatoes and ice creams alongside a selection of locally sourced craft ales. As well as the new unit, additional picnic tables have also been installed in the courtyard of the station. The new unit will aim to attract both passengers and weary walkers, looking for a post-climb bite to eat.
This programme of enhancements to the visitor experience sits alongside an investment of £200,000 in the railway’s infrastructure over the winter by Heritage Great Britain.
