Snowdon Mountain Railway to host 120th anniversary celebration!

26th August 2016

Snowdon Mountain Railway has announced a weekend of celebrations this September to mark its 120th anniversary.

It is 120 years since trains first took passengers from the village of Llanberis to the summit of Wales’ highest peak, so the railway has organised three days of fun at its Llanberis station.

A range of stalls from local Welsh traders will offer food and drink, while visitors can expect a variety of entertainment throughout the weekend.

Alan Kendall, Snowdon Mountain Railway’s general manager, said:

“For a railway that takes passengers to the top of Wales’ highest mountain to be in operation for 120 years is something to be genuinely proud of.

“So we’re inviting people from across North Wales to join us in celebrating this truly historic Welsh railway.

“Snowdonia Distillery Gin Bar, Bodnant Welsh Food Stall, Great Orme Brewery Beer Tent, Debbie's Cake'ole Cake Stall and Y Dyn Cig Hog Roast will provide the food and drink.

“There will also be a local photography fair, Punch & Judy shows and face painting, a giant photo frame which we’ll be taking up to the summit, while our railway staff will get dressed up in Victorian clothing during the weekend.”

The 120th anniversary celebration weekend takes place from Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th of September, from 10am each day.
